BASEL, SWITZERLAND(SMI-GLOBAL-WOMEN-SPORTS-JULY 02-27, 2025)-The 14th-edition of the FIFA UEFA Women's Euro championship concluded after 16-teams competed playing 31-games across 11-cities and during 25-days in Switzerland, with the reigning champions "England" defeating Spain 3-1, in penalty shoot-out to claim the UEFA Women's Euro 2025 trophy at St. Jakob-Park, in Basel, Switzerland.

With the 3-1, victory, the Lionesses win their second consecutive UEFA Euro crown & 1st place prize 1.75 Million Euros while Spain as runner-up will receive 850,000 Euros from the total prize of 41,000,000 (41 Million Euros) of the UEFA Women's Euro 2025.

A Colossal match between European champions; England as the Reigning champions came to the tournament to defend their title while reigning FIFA World Cup champions Spain was in search of their first ever UEFA Women's Euro crown.

The Spaniards controlled the pace of the game and outperformed the English on the game-stats with 65%-35% in possession, 22-8, shots on goal and tie 5-5, shots on target.

The Lionesses attacked first with an initial counter-attack in the firs 4' of the game.
Defender Leah Williamson sent a long pass from back-line to striker Alessia Russo through the right-side and on a fast break ran inside the 18, and shot a low right-footed towards goal but it was saved and parried away by goalkeeper Cata Coll.

Spain answered back with a counter-attack of their own, when defender Olga Carmona through the left-side field on a fast break, centered a pass inside the
penalty box intended to striker Esther who stopped the ball with her chest and kicked a left-footed deflecting-off goalkeeper Hannah Hampton's body out-of bounce for a corner-kick at 9' mark. 


The Lionesses kept the pressure with its offensive line playing tight coverage against the Spain's defensive line until goalkeeper Cata Coll made a crucial mistake in trying to give a short pass inside the 18' to defender Irenes Paredes intercepted by
forward Lauren Hemp who shot a right-footed from the 6-yards box deflecting-off Coll's leg out-of-bounce for a corner kick at 19' mark. 

Six-minute later, La Roja (The Red, Spain) counter-attacked through the right-side field corner with midfielder Athenea del Castillo passing the ball to Ona Batlle inside the 18, and centered near the 6-yard box finding Mariona Caldentey who scored with a beautiful header towards the right-goal post corner in back of the net for 1-0, Spain at 25' mark.

Spain picked-up where they left-off in the second half with two consecutive counter-attacks that barely missed the back of the net for the Reds.

Forward Athenea del Castillo on a fast-break through the right-side field, ran inside the penalty box and gave it to Aitana Bonmatí who shot a right-footed to the hand of goalkeeper Hannah Hampton, and 2' later, defender Ona Batlle on a break-away centered a pass from inside the box to Mariona Caldentey who shot a right-footed saved by goalkeeper Hampton at 52' mark.  

England stroke-back with a counter-attack of their own when striker Chloe Kelly on a fast-break through the left-side field, centered a perfect pass inside the 18' finding  forward Alessia Russo who scored with a beautiful header to the far goalpost to tie the game 1-1, at 57' mark.

Both teams traded counter-attacks through the rest of the second half, and during the 2-extra 15' period without any major danger at either goal, ending the match tie 1-1, and sending both teams into a penalty shoot-out to determine the winner. 

In the penalty kicks, Alex Greenwood, Niamh Charles and Chloe Kelly (Scored the Winning penalty kick) scored for the Lionesses while Patri Guijarro netted for the Spaniards in the 3-1, win for England over Spain.

With the 3-1, victory, The English win their second consecutive UEFA Women's Euro 
championship crown and became the first team to do it since Germany did it in 2013.
