NEW YORK, NY(SMI-GLOBAL-ENTERTAINMENT AUGUST 18-SEPTEMBER 07, 2025)-CBS & MTV announced that renowned US Artist, singer & songwriter " Mariah Carey " will be honored with the Video Vanguard Award & perform at the upcoming 2025 MTV " VMAs" awards to be held and air on CBS on Sept 07, from the UBS Arena in Elmond, NY.
The Michael Jackson Vanguard Award is an award presented by MTV to recording artists and music video directors since 1984, in recognition for their "outstanding contributions" and "profound impact" on music videos and popular culture at its annual VMAs (Video Music Awards).
The Beatles and director Richard Lester shared the honor to be awarded the first-ever or inaugural VMAs in 1984. Other artists who were honored include Katy Perry, Shakira, Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Madonna, Janet Jackson, LL COOL J, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Justin Timberlake and Missy Elliott, & David Bowie.
Carey, who is considered one of the best selling woman performers of all time attends the VMAs (Video Music Awards) for the first time after 2-decade as a nominee and performer, will be honored with the Video Vanguard Award
in a reciprocal time-line when she presented the same award to LL COOL J in 1997.
Mariah Carey made her debut at the VMAs in 1991 with a grandiose performance of her first awards show presentation of the song " Emotions" , captivating the audiences with her potent five-octave vocal range.
Carey is known for her iconic videos including “Honey,” “Heartbreaker,” “Obsessed,” “Touch My Body,” “Breakdown” and “#Beautiful,” who has sold over 220 million records and albums worldwide, and accolades includes
5-Grammys and 19-Billboard Hot 100 #1 singles registered during her career, the most of any other solo artist in history. She is also featuring her 16th studio album "Here for It All' to be released on September 16, which includes her new single “Type Dangerous,” for which she obtained a nomination and it's competing in the category for Best R&B this year at 2025 VMAs.
