BASEL, SWITZERLAND(SMI-GLOBAL-WOMEN-SPORTS-JULY 02-27, 2025)-FIFA ranked #16, Norway Women's national team defeated the host #23, Switzerland 2-1, to grab its first 3-points in Group A, of the 2025 UEFA Women's Euro 2025 soccer tournament at St. Jakob-Park Stadium in the city of Basel, Switzerland.
The UEFA Women's Euro 2025 kick-off with 20-Europeans team nations competing for the 2025 UEFA Euro crown in 5-Groups with 4-teams each from July 02-27, and first two place finish advancing to the knock-out rounds and finals to take place at St. Jakob-Park Stadium in the city of Basel, Switzerland.
The Swiss outperformed the Norwegians in the game-stats but Norway scored the two goals that gave them the victory.
The host also known as the "Red Crosses" made its first clear attempt to goal when a
counter-attack through the left-side field, defender Nadine Riesen passed the ball to
forward Geraldine Reuteler who shot a right-footed canon from 25-yards away hitting the middle crossbar back onto the field at 24' mark.
Four-minutes later, Switzerland kept the pressure and in another counter-attack
through the left-side field, defender Riesen once again in a breakaway ran inside
the 18' and during a loose ball shot a right-footed hitting the left-goalpost ending in back of the net to put the Swiss 1-0, over Norway at 28' mark.
In the second half, The Norwegians found the equalizer through forward Ada Hegerberg who scored with a header after receiving a corner-kick from midfielder
Vilde Boe Risa at 53' mark.
Norway went in front 5' minute later, when striker Caroline Graham Hansen received a long pass from downfield, and in a lightning breakaway crossed the ball from inside the penalty box intended to forward Ada Hegerberg, but it was deflected by defender Julia Stierli and the ball ending in back of the net for (OG) to secure the 2-1, win for Norway 2-1, at 58' mark.
