BERN, SWITZERLAND(SMI-GLOBAL-WOMEN-SPORTS-JULY 02-27, 2025)-FIFA ranked #2, and reigning 2023 FIFA World Cup Champions, Spain Women's national team routed #22, Portugal 5-0, to claim its first 3-points in Group B, of the 2025 UEFA Women's Euro 2025 soccer tournament at Wankdorf Stadium in Bern, Switzerland.
The UEFA Women's Euro 2025 kick-off with 20-Europeans team nations competing for the 2025 UEFA Euro crown in 5-Groups with 4-teams each from July 02-27, and the first two place finish of each group advancing to the knock-out rounds, and finals to take place on Sunday July 27, at St. Jakob-Park Stadium in the city of Basel, Switzerland.
The Spaniards outperformed the Portuguese team in the game-stats with an impressive 72% to 28% possession, 22-7, shots at goal and 9-2, shots on target to overpower Portugal on its debut on the tournament.
The spaniards went to the attack as soon the referee blew the whistle, and scored two goals in the first 7' minute of the game through forwards Ester Gonzalez and Vicky Lopez to put Spain 2-0, very early in the game.
Defender Olga Carmona sent a long-pass from midfield to inside the 18' finding striker Ester Gonzales who stopped the ball with her chest and scored with a right-footed in
back of the net for 1-0, at 2', and five minute later, forward Mariona Caldentey from inside the 18', crossed a rolling pass to the middle finding striker Vicky Lopez who tapped the ball in back of the net for 2-0, Spain at 07' mark.
The Spaniards overpower Portugal the rest of the first half with consecutive shots on goal and scored two more goals in the last 5' minute for 4-0, in favor of Spain at the half. Defender Ona Batlle centered a long pass inside the penalty box to midfielder Alexi Putellas who stopped the ball with her chest, evaded a defender, and scored with left-footed to the near goal-post at 41' and 3-minute later, forward Caldentey centered a looping ball from the left-side hitting the far-goalpost, and bouncing to striker Esther who was standing inside the 6-yard box and scored with a left-footed for her second goal of the game at 43' mark.
In the second half, Portugal tried to regroup with numerous counter-attacks from both side of the side-field corners but were not successful on shots to goal.
In stoppage time, and game-clock winding down, forward Salma Paralluelo centered a ball from the left-side corner inside the 6-yard box, finding striker Cristina Martin-Prieto who scored a sensational goal at 90+3, with a header to sealed the 5-0, rout over Portugal.
